Defining and accessing Data Sources

Explains creating AWS Bedrock Knowledge Base data sources and assigning via Default or Group Policy. Covers connector prerequisites, creation, and access verification.

Overview

This document explains how to create Data Sources and control access to them for the F5 SurePath AI Portal, Assistants, and Shortcuts.

All Data Sources require a Connector to work. Create the Connector before adding a Data Source.

High Level Steps

These steps apply to all types of Data Sources

  • Previously created a SurePath AI Connector

  • Create a Data Source

  • Enable secure access to the Data Source

AWS Knowledge Base

Prerequisites

Procedure

  • Connect to and login to SurePath AI at: https://admin.surepath.ai

  • Navigate to Data Sources > Add Source

  • Name will be displayed to users.

  • The Connector must be AWS and be in the same region as the Knowledge Base

  • Type should be Bedrock Knowledge Base

  • The Knowledge Base Id can be gathered from AWS

  • The bottom name is the name of the KB in AWS.

  • SAVE when done.

Once saved, proceed to the section of this document titled Define access to a Data Source.

Define access to a Data Source

Prerequisites

  • Admin access to SurePath AI

  • Previously created Data Source (from this document)

Default Policy

This procedure gives all end users of the SurePath AI Portal access to the Data Source. Follow the Group Policy procedure instead to restrict access.

  • Connect to and login to SurePath AI at: https://admin.surepath.ai

  • Navigate to Default Policy > Portal

  • Scroll down to Data Source Assignment

  • Select the Data Source from the Available list and click the right arrow ">" to move it to the Assigned list.

  • The Data Source now appears in the Assigned Data Sources list.

  • Move other data sources either to or from the Assigned list as needed.

  • Validate that the appropriate Data Sources are assigned to the Default Policy.

  • Click SAVE CHANGES

Group Policy

This procedure assigns the Data Sources only to end users in the selected Group.

  • Connect to and login to SurePath AI at: https://admin.surepath.ai

  • Navigate to Group Policies

  • Select the Group Policy to add the Data Sources to

  • Select the Portal tab, and scroll down to Data Source Assignment

  • Move data sources between the Available and Assigned columns as needed using the arrows

  • Click SAVE CHANGES.

Access/Security Verification

After adding a Data Source to either the Default Policy or a Group Policy, admins can validate the change using one of the following procedures.

In Portal verification

This procedure only works if the admin's login has the same access as the end users, or the Data Source was added to the Default Policy.

In Admin verification

Admins use this procedure when adding Data Sources to a Group that their own login does not have access to. It confirms that the procedure was applied correctly to the expected user or group.

User Profile

  • Connect to and login to SurePath AI at: https://admin.surepath.ai

  • Navigate to Users and Groups > End Users

  • Select the ">" arrow for the end user to verify

  • Scroll down until the Data Source appears in the Default Policy or the expected Group Policy

Directory Services Group Profile

  • Navigate to Users and Groups > Groups

  • Select the ">" arrow for the group to verify

  • Scroll down until the Data Source appears in this group's policy

  • The name shown is the Group Policy the Data Source was attached to earlier in this document, not the name of the Directory Services Group being viewed

  • Click the View Policy link to go directly to the policy for changes if needed
