Insights: Understanding the business value of GenAI

This article describes the function and capabilities of the SurePath AI Insights dashboard.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

Overview

The Insights page gives administrators a high‑level, shareable view of GenAI usage, risk, and adoption across their organization. It combines fast, flexible filtering with drill‑through access to the underlying transactions so you can move from trend to investigation in a single click. Export dashboards as PDFs or set up email subscriptions to keep stakeholders informed automatically.

Insights empowers organizations to reduce risk by identifying and quantifying sensitive data exposure before it becomes a compliance incident, optimize AI investments by tracking adoption rates and usage patterns, and accelerate decision-making by transforming weeks of manual analysis into real-time dashboards. With audit-ready reports showing policy enforcement and data protection controls, teams can demonstrate compliance while enabling safe innovation across the organization.

Prerequisites

  • Administrative access to the SurePath AI admin interface.

  • Directory Sync (SCIM) recommended to leverage Group‑based filtering.

Available Insights

The Insights page is divided into four tabs. Each tab includes tiles, charts, and tables that can be reconfigured and filtered.

  • Public Services: Usage, adoption, and risk for public GenAI services such as ChatGPT and Claude. See volumes, top services, intents, violations, and policy outcomes. Understand shadow AI usage across your organization and identify opportunities to consolidate services and optimize licensing costs.

  • Risk: Focused views that help quantify and monitor risk across both Public Services and the Private Portal, including sensitive data detections, violation rates, and blocked requests. Demonstrate regulatory compliance, support audit preparation, and prevent costly data breaches by identifying exposure patterns before they become incidents.

  • Adoption: Who is using GenAI and for what, across Public Services and the Private Portal. Breakdowns by group, user, intent, and service illustrate growth and use‑cases. Measure ROI on your AI initiatives, identify power users and champions, and guide enablement efforts with data-driven insights into how teams are actually using GenAI.

  • Private Portal: How users are leveraging the SurePath AI Private Portal. Track requests, intents, sources, and outcomes specific to the portal experience. Justify infrastructure investments by showing executive stakeholders how the Private Portal drives secure, compliant AI adoption while maintaining visibility and control.

Working with charts and tables

Charts and tables are interactive and customizable.

  • Click a chart or table title to change the grouping, update summarizations, or switch visualization types.

  • Hover or right‑click on chart segments to access context actions such as "See these transactions" or "Break out by…".

  • Use tool tips to see exact values and date buckets.

Drill‑through: See these transactions

From any data point that looks interesting or concerning, click the data point, then select See these transactions. You will be taken to a tabular view of the exact underlying data used to render the visualization. From there you can:

  • Add additional filters.

  • Change groupings and summarizations.

  • Export rows if needed, or pivot to investigate specific users, services, or violations.

Filtering the dashboard

Insights supports flexible filtering, including unlimited look‑back.

  • Date Range: Choose from presets like Today, Previous 7 days, Previous 30 days, Previous month, or select Specific dates and Relative dates. Unlimited look‑back lets admins analyze any time frame across their tenant history.

  • Groups: Filter by any Group synced via SCIM or created manually in your tenant. This enables focused views for departments or regions (for example, Engineering or HR).

Filters apply to the entire dashboard, including tiles, charts, and tables, and are also respected by PDF exports and email subscriptions.

Share and automate

Export as PDF

Download the current dashboard (with all active filters) as a PDF for distribution to leaders or for inclusion in status reports.

Steps

  1. Apply any desired Date Range and Group filters.

  2. In the top‑right of the Insights page, select Export as PDF.

  3. Save or share the generated file.

Email subscriptions

Subscriptions send the dashboard on a schedule to yourself and other stakeholders. Each subscription preserves its own Date Range and Group filters, so different leaders can receive exactly the view they need.

For information on how to create Subscriptions, please read the Insights Subscriptions article.

Example use cases

  • Reduce security incidents: Use Risk insights to identify unexpected spikes in sensitive data detections across departments. Drill-through analysis can reveal training gaps, allowing you to correct behavior before they become data breaches and potentially avoid millions in regulatory fines.

  • Justify AI investment to executives: Generate weekly PDF reports filtered by group to demonstrate public service and private portal adoption trends and usage growth to executive stakeholders, making it easier to show clear ROI on your GenAI investments.

  • Optimize software costs: Analyze Public Services usage trends to understand which GenAI services your teams prefer and actually use. This data can help you negotiate better enterprise pricing, eliminate unused licenses, and consolidate tools.

  • Accelerate compliance audits: Export filtered dashboards showing policy enforcement rates and data protection controls to provide auditors with ready-made evidence of your security posture, potentially reducing audit preparation time from weeks to hours.

Terminology

  • Intent: The classified purpose of a request (for example, General, Marketing, Product management).

  • Policy Decision: The action taken by SurePath AI (for example, Intercept, Redact, Block).

  • Sensitive Data Detection: Identification of PII or other restricted content based on configured policies.
